Dear survivors of sexual violence,

Many survivors keep their stories hidden from a world that doubts the reality of sexual violence. But sexual violence is real. In fact, it is an epidemic. According to the UN Commission on the Status of Women, one in three women and girls in the world will be beaten or sexually abused in her lifetime. To the discredit of the mainstream media, rape continues to be misrepresented in newspapers and on television news programs. There's something you can do to change this - TAKE BACK THE NEWS!

This is your opportunity to share your story of survival in a public forum. By adding your voice, your story, to the news, you revolt against the stigma and you release the shame that many survivors carry. By sharing your words you will help others understand what rape is and how it affects real people. You will help create a culture of responsibility and ultimately a culture of change.

Please take this opportunity to add your voice to the voices already breaking the silence. Please help all of us take back the news.

Respectfully,
Emily, Maria, Laura, Julia and Julia
